Once in an interview, Anurag shared the details about all that happened behind the scenes and shed light on how Sushant signed a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films. While his first YRF film was Shuddh Desi Romance co-starring Parineeti Chopra, the latter did not want to work with Sushant in Hasee To Phasee.

In a candid conversation with journalist, Faye D’Souza, Anurag Kashyap opened up about selecting the cast of his film, Hasee Toh Phasee, and revealed that Sushant Singh Rajput was the first choice for the male lead. However, he added that Parineeti Chopra refused to work with Sushant, as she thought him to be a TV actor. He was heard saying:
“He was supposed to do the film (Hasee Toh Phasee) and we had to find an actress and we reached out to Parineeti Chopra. She said ‘I don’t want to work with a television actor’. So we explained to her who Sushant Singh is, he is doing Kai Po Che, he is doing PK, and by the time Hasee Toh Phasee comes out, he will not just be a television actor.’

However, Sushant Singh Rajput worked with Parineeti Chopra in the film, Shuddh Desi Romance, while she played the lead opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Hasee Toh Phasee. Further, in the same interview, Anurag Kashyap mentioned that everyone believed going with YRF was a better deal for Sushant Singh Rajput, so no one opposed his decision. He added:
‘And she was doing a film called Shuddh Desi Romance and she must have gone and spoken to YRF, they called him and said ‘Why don’t you come and do Shuddh Desi Romance and not do that film?’ And he disappeared on us.”

While one user commented, ‘During Shuddh Desi Romance, she said he looks like a truck driver and didn’t want to do the intimate scene’, another wrote, ‘You know how she said she would never marry a politician and then did that? I have a sneaky feeling he’s going to be of use to her a little later on and she knows it.’
