Actor Vijay Sethupathi is currently gearing up for his next film titled Merry Christmas opposite Katrina Kaif. Sethupathi, who was previously seen in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan, has opened up about his ‘core’ memory from the very first time he visited Mumbai. The actor also revealed that he was supposed to do Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha.
In an interview with Mashable, Sethupathi said, “I was supposed to do Laal Singh Chaddha. So I met the director in the afternoon and when I was leaving, Aamir sir called me and said, ‘Can we meet?’ I went to his home. So the first time when I came to Mumbai, I went to a star’s home and I had coffee and a cigarette with him. And after that, Aamir sir came and dropped me to the airport.”
Laal Singh Chaddha, which was released in 2022, was a remake of the cult film Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks. The movie, which tanked at the box-office, also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Naga Chaitanya in pivotal roles.
Vijay Sethupathi also opened up about his acting journey, recounting how he initially faced challenges when his wife’s pregnancy led him to leave a struggling accountant job in Dubai.
After joining a theater group, he discovered that true acting couldn’t be taught but had to be found within oneself. Intrigued, he observed actors for two years, eventually breaking into the industry. His initial goal was not stardom but financial stability, aiming to buy an apartment and an old car.
Merry Christmas is helmed by Sriram Raghavan and will release in theatres on January 12.
