Body-shaming has always been a spicy topic to gossip for many. Amid unrealistic beauty standards set by fashion and film industries, it is not uncommon to face such trolls every now and then. People are trolled for being overweight and underweight, and even celebs face it. Raashi Khanna, who entered the film industry on a plumpy side, recalls her bitter experiences with body shaming.
The actress is currently relishing the success of her role as Aliyah in the psychological crime thriller Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness. In one of the recent interviews, the actress was asked about the worst criticism she had faced in her career. Raashii opened up on her experience of body-shaming in the initial days of her career in South cinema. As we know, Raashi worked in Malayalam and Tamil films apart from Telugu. She said people in the South called her a ‘gas tanker’ for being overweight. However, not many know that she struggled with PCOD.
Though she is thankful for the roles she got, Raashi was hurt with being called a ‘gas tanker and stuff’ when she had just started her career in the South. “They used to say I am a gas tanker and stuff like that in the South when I started and I don’t say anything because I was quite big for the mainstream that they have. And I did become fitter in time, not to please anybody, but because I know that the job requires that,” she said.
Raashi further said that bullying, both online and in-person, honestly didn’t bother her. The actress also recalled her struggle with PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease), which made it hard for her to maintain her weight. “I am still doing well and of course, I had issues, PCOD, all that jazz which everybody goes through. But that nobody knows, what they see is what they see on screen. So I can’t blame them”.
And today Raashi is definitely one of the fittest actresses we have in the South. Meanwhile, the actress is shooting for the Tamil film Sardar featuring Karthi. She is also working on Yodha, which will mark her comeback in Bollywood. Raashi also has Thank You with Naga Chaitanya for the release.
