Crew Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan finds herself in a legal controversy over the title of her latest book. Kapoor Khan’s book was published in 2021. The actor is a mother to two sons: Taimur Ali Khan, born in 2018, and Jehangir Ali Khan, born in 2021. It offers a firsthand account of her pregnancy journey and expert advice for expectant mothers.
However, the recent controversy surrounding its title has overshadowed its intended purpose. Currently, it is drawing attention to issues of religious sensitivity and freedom of expression.
What is Kareena Kapoor Khan’s book title?
The controversy centers on the title of her book, ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible’. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken notice of the issue following a petition filed by advocate Christopher Anthony. Anthony is a social activist hailing from Jabalpur. He further alleges that the term “bible” in the title is offensive to the Christian community.
Following Anthony’s petition, Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia, presiding over a single-judge bench, summoned Kareena Kapoor Khan to explain why she chose the term “bible” for her book title. The notice has stirred heated debates. Anthony has asserted that the comparison between Kapoor Khan’s pregnancy journey and the revered Christian scripture is utterly disrespectful to the community. Notices have also been sent to the sellers of the book. As demanded by Mr. Anthony in his petition, sellers are expected to put a ban on the book’s sale.
Anthony has spared no effort in pursuing his cause. Initially rebuffed by the police in his attempt to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Kareena Kapoor Khan, he subsequently sought legal recourse through the lower court and the Additional Sessions Court, only to meet with disappointment. However, Anthony still persists in his contention that the book’s title is a disrespectful ploy to gain unwarranted publicity.
Kapoor Khan and the book’s publishers are poised to respond to the court’s notice, setting the stage for a potentially precedent-setting case.
Kareena Kapoor gets HC notice for using word ‘Bible’ in title of her book about pregnancy
A lawyer sought a criminal case against the actor for allegedly hurting Christian sentiments.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to actor Kareena Kapoor Khan on a petition objecting to the word “Bible” being used in the title of her book on pregnancy, Bar and Bench reported.
The petitioner, lawyer Christopher Anthony, sought a criminal case against Khan and others for allegedly hurting Christian sentiments through the title of the book “Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible: The Ultimate Manual for Moms-To-Be’.
Anthony demanded that the book be banned and the word “Bible” be removed from its title, according to PTI.
Justice GS Ahluwalia of the High Court issued a notice to Khan on Thursday. The judge also issued notices to co-author Aditi Shah Bhimjyani, e-commerce platform Amazon Online Shopping, publisher Juggernaut Books, the Madhya Pradesh government, the Jabalpur superintendent of police and the officer-in-charge of the city’s Omti police station.
After Khan’s book on pregnancy was released in August 2021, Anthony approached the Omti police station seeking a case against the actor and others for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Christians. After the police refused to file an inquiry report, the lawyer approached a city court, according to PTI.
Anthony told the news agency that the city court dismissed his petition on February 26, 2022, after which he approached the High Court.
